General description
To walk or climb a Via Ferrata is a spectacular and exciting alternative for intrepid climbers who have not yet gained much climbing experience.

Via Ferratas are protected scrambling routes at lofty heights. Extra prepared stemples, iron steps, and ladders fixed in the rocks help the rock climber, secured with ropes and carabiners, to move along these fixed points.

The nature reserve ‘El Torcal’ in Antequera is a unique location for this type of adventure.

To do a Via Ferrata is comparable to climbing up a ladder. As well as the iron steps, there are also iron cables anchored to the rocks to which the ropes can be secured.

The height, environment and physical effort require the appropriate equipment and knowledge about basic climbing techniques.

There are two possibilities to climb up the rocks: either secured with a rope or without the rope.

Climbing without the rope, the most precarious moment comes when the carabiner is changed from one fixed iron cable to the next one. In this moment it is important to have reached a safe and stable position to be able to change the carabiner without any problems.

The use of an additional rope is recommended for people who are doing this adventure sport for the first time. In this case, the leading climber secures the following climber with a carabiner or a moving knot and all the others secure themselves with a braking device or a self-locking knot.
